A Morphometric Study for the Effect of Ginseng on the Fatty Liver Induced by Carbon Tetrachloride

Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate the effect of Ginseng on the fatty liver induced by carbon tetrachloride. For this study; the experimental animals (Sprague-Dawley rats) were divided into 4 experimen
tal groups; normal group, CC1,intoxicated group (control group), GT group treated with Ginseng after CC1,intoxication and GII group treated with Ginseng both before and after CC1,intoxication, and animals
were sacrificed at the intervals of 12 hours, 1,2,4 and 6 days following the CC1,feeding.
A morphometric evaluation for the fat contents in hepatic lobules were performed by means of LUZEX-500 image analyzer.
The results obtained are summarized as follows:
1. The average number of fat droplets in Ginseng-treated groups showed significantly lower than that
in control group.
2. The average size of fat droplets in Ginseng-treated groups showed no change as compared with the
control group.
3. The area of fat contents in Ginseng-treated groups showed significantly lower than that in control group, and this effect was also more prominent in GII group.
From above results, it is suggested that Ginseng has a control and curative effect on the fatty liver
induced by carbon tetrachloride.
